APXIV. The self-organizing nature of contemporary art

40 minute presentation of the movie trailer

The Cosmoscow APXIV Institute of the Year is an independent self-organization of artists, created in January 2017, in the space located on the territory of NIIDAR in the premises of the former archive, and is one of the most striking extra-institutional phenomena on the Moscow art scene of recent times. APXIV was created with the aim of creating its own creative environment and collaboration with others. In their activities, APXIV'a artists give priority to the artistic process itself and strive to move away from the standard approach to exhibition practices. For example, all exhibitions have the format of a one-day event, and the exposition itself quite often takes the form of a single statement.

For Cosmoscow Talks, APXIV residents will prepare a project dedicated to the self-organizing nature of art. In their collective statement, they will reveal this topic, showing the heterogeneity of the internal content of self-organization as a continuous process of its formation and self-determination. Through the many stories of its participants, they will show the unique nature of its integrity, based on exterior relationships. They will also tell you how to interact within the framework of such a union (where centrifugal rather than centripetal forces dominate), without violating the community of their existence.
